Manor Residence
This bungalow in Etobicoke was completely renovated for an environmentally conscious homeowner. Working with the designer and builder, we were able to incorporate solar thermal, photovoltaics and rainwater harvesting into the plans and building permit.
The Rainwater Harvesting System uses salvaged wine casks as modular water reservoirs - A beautiful alternative to traditional plastic barrels or costly and intrusive underground system. Plumbed in-line with the control and pump station, a moisture censored drip irrigation system supplies water to a large garden. This garden will water itself only when the plants require it, with zero effort from the homeowner.
The Photovoltaic MicroFit Grid Tie System produces electricity that is sold to the grid for a premium. A contract with the OPA and the local Hydro company lock this arrangement for a period of 20 years earning the customer 9-12% return annually. Grid Tie systems engage sustainable energy while earning consistent money for the homeowner. Components and engineering supplied by Interect Inc.
The Solar Thermal System consists of 80 Vacuum tubes to preheat water for an outdoor in-ground pool. Once up and running, this system will bring in water temperatures of 38+ degrees Celsius on a sunny day, saving energy and money for the owner.
